Admissions Assistant (Non-Benefited)

VCUarts Qatar invites applications for the position of Admissions Assistant. This is a temporary, non-benefited position based in the Office of Recruitment and Admissions within the Division of Student Affairs. The role serves as a front-line support position for prospective students, families, and guests.

The Admissions Assistant supports student recruitment, admissions outreach, and applicant engagement through a range of communication channels, including phone, email, virtual chat, social media, campus visits, and recruitment events. The position assists in guiding prospective undergraduate and graduate students through the application process and supports the university’s goal of attracting, enrolling, and retaining high-quality students who will contribute to a highly skilled 21st-century workforce.

VCUarts Qatar currently offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Graphic Design, Interior Design, Kinetic Imaging, and Painting + Printmaking; a Bachelor of Arts in Art History; and a Master of Fine Arts in Design Studies, with the potential for new academic programs in the future. The university attracts students from Qatar, the Gulf region, and internationally, and also supports a semester exchange program with the home campus at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Reporting to the Director of Recruitment and Admissions, and working closely with senior members of the admissions team, the Admissions Assistant will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the department and support recruitment and admissions activities that advance the mission and visibility of VCUarts Qatar.

This is a non-sponsored hourly position with no benefits. Applicants must have a valid residence permit and currently live in Qatar.

Major Activities & Essential Functions

  • Supports front-line engagement with prospective students, applicants, families, and guests, ensuring a welcoming and informative experience with VCUarts Qatar.
  • Responds to applicant inquiries and provide timely correspondence regarding admissions processes, required documents, events, and general university information.
  • Assists with student recruitment efforts by promoting VCUarts Qatar, its academic programs, admissions events, and related outreach activities.
  • Supports the collection, review, and tracking of admissions documents for first-year, transfer, and graduate applicants.
  • Assists with the use of admissions systems and platforms, including Slate, Banner, Common App, SlideRoom, and other admissions technologies.
  • Contributes to student engagement initiatives, including support for student ambassador programs, campus visits, and recruitment activities.
  • Maintains a proactive and engaging approach to encouraging student applications and supporting applicants throughout the admissions process.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with VCUarts Qatar, Education City, art and design education, university admissions, and student recruitment practices.
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with individuals from all backgrounds.
  • Supports local recruitment and admissions activities, including occasional local travel as required.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Preferred:

  • Experience in higher education recruitment and admissions, particularly at the undergraduate level.
  • Appreciation for the visual arts, art and design education, and the mission of VCUarts Qatar.
  • Basic understanding of student information systems and/or customer relationship management platforms, such as Banner, Slate, Common App, and SlideRoom.
  • Multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Arabic proficiency is appreciated, and Arabic fluency is preferred.

Skills & Experience

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with prospective students and families, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and university administration.
  • Excellent fluency in English, including reading, writing, and public speaking.
  • Ability to use social media appropriately and effectively to support recruitment, outreach, and student engagement activities.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to contribute positively within a collaborative office environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and remain punctual and dependable.
  • Understanding of office protocols, university promotion, and front-line customer service practices.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
