The advanced Interior Design class will be the next stage of learning more about Interior Design. This course will be more in-depth in terms of materials and construction. The students will learn how to understand floor plans, fit-out and spatial design. This is for students who already have the general knowledge of Interior design but want to have the fundamentals of the technical and construction side.
1: Introduction to Interior Design Understanding the role of the interior designer and how the designer works with professionals in other disciplines.
2: Spatial Design – Codes and Standards Interior design is regulated by local, state, and federal codes that all designers need to be aware of. Also, interior designers are encouraged to incorporate interior design standards into their projects.
3: Design Styles, Materials and Design Specialization Interior designers must be knowledgeable about the many different design styles and styles that have been used throughout history. Interior designers will often specialize in a particular industry, or type of design.
4: Construction Fundamentals Understanding the fundamentals of construction such as show drawings and floor plans.
5: Fit out and Technical Drafting Understanding what is fit out in construction and how to read elevations, sections and floor plans.
6: Project – Part 1 Starting a project/space from concept to finish, which includes mood board, floor plan layout of a space and sketches.
7: Project – Part 2 Starting a project/space from concept to finish, which includes mood board, floor plan layout of a space and sketches.
8: Presentation and critique Final presentation and critique.

Omaima Abdulla
Omaima is a VCUQ Alumni graduating with an Interior Design degree. Developed her career by being in different roles such as set designer, Interior designer and Project Manager. During her Masters at the Glasgow School of Art she enhanced her research and design skills through portraying social, political and science through her projects.
