Graphic Design Assistant (non-benefited)

Summary

The Graphic Design Assistant supports social media management and design within the Department of Painting and Printmaking. The assistant collaborates with the department director, junior faculty administrator, and faculty to manage and enhance social media presence. In addition to designing presentations, and diverse publications, including print and digital, This role involves creating content aligned with the department’s social media strategy and creative identity.
This is a non-sponsored hourly position with no benefits based on a maximum of 25 hours per week. Applicants must have a valid residence permit and currently live in Qatar.  Preferences will be given to VCU alumni.

Major Activities & Essential Functions

  • Develops engaging content that aligns with the department’s strategy and creative identity. This includes creating visually appealing posts, editing videos, and designing graphics.
  • Ensures consistent branding and messaging across all departmental social media accounts. Responds to comments and monitor online engagement.
  • Works closely with the department director, administrator, and faculty to coordinate social media campaigns. Ensures alignment of social media efforts with departmental goals and educational content.
  • Designs posters, flyers, and publications for department events, ensuring they maintain the departmental look.
  • Utilizes university resources to support design and production, coordinating with other departments for specialized equipment or materials.
  • Stays organized to meet deadlines and manage multiple design projects effectively.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • MA or MFA  in design.
  • Social media design portfolio and diverse projects.
  • Bilingual Proficiency: Ability to design in Arabic and English to cater to the department’s diverse audience and language needs.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage deadlines and keep design assets organized.
  • Proficiency in social media management, graphic design, and video editing.
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign).
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and provide reliable support to the department.
  • Knowledge and experience in utilizing social media platforms for promotional purposes.
  • Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite.
