Alia's work reflects on the politics of contested notions of linguistics, identity, borders, universality, colonization, mental/physical confinement, and the inherent dualism that exists in each of them

Alia Ali, a Yemeni-Bosnian-American multi-media artist whose work reflects on the politics of contested notions of linguistics, identity, borders, universality, colonization, mental/physical confinement, and the inherent dualism that exists in each of them, will be giving the latest in the series of online lectures titled, “Decolonizing Art Narratives: Arab Women Artists Today.”

It will take place on Wednesday, April 7, from 8pm Doha time. It will be followed by a discussion and a Q&A moderated by VCUarts Qatar Art History Assistant Professor Holiday Powers.

Decolonizing Art Narratives: Arab Women Artists Today” is a collaboration between the Painting + Printmaking program at VCUarts Qatar and the Fire Station: Artist in Residence, and it explores issues of gender, politics, colonialism, culture, and identity. The online lecture series asks how Arab women artists can revisit and rethink existing narratives in contemporary art.
