Titled “Frames, reframed”, the event was held at Doha Beach Club.
The two-day event organized by the European Union (EU) Delegation to Qatar united young directors from Europe and Qatar and showcased boundary-pushing short films that spotlighted emerging creative talent.
The festival attracted a diverse audience for the film screenings and masterclasses, showcasing the growing interest in the art of short filmmaking across both regions.
The event highlighted the power of storytelling to connect cultures and foster understanding.
“Memory Mosaic” by Selma Fejzullaj, a Class of 2024 Graphic Design alumna and current MFA student uncovered the hidden stories of Albania’s Muslim community during a time of religious suppression.
“Unyielding Determination” by VCUarts Qatar alumnus Alaa Albarazy and student Shahd Al-Saad, captured the essence of growth through tradition and self-awareness.
Hadeer Omar, an Egyptian media artist, designer, and Assistant Professor, conducted a masterclass on Social Media Short Films, focusing on creating compelling content using only a smartphone or low-budget camera.
Maysaa Almumin, a Qatar-based filmmaker and Art Foundation Associate Professor, was a jury member.
Northwestern University in Qatar and Georgetown University in Qatar were the other Education City universities that had their presence at the festival.
