The competition was modeled on a similar initiative announced by the United Nations during the pandemic, when it issued a global call to creatives around the world for entries to support and reinforce messages on how to stay safe, and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Reflecting that spirit, VCUarts Qatar invited entries from undergraduate students for an art and design competition, as a response to the unprecedented challenges that the wider community were facing.

Following the official call, VCUarts Qatar undergraduates submitted original projects or proposals on a range of themes such as community projects, research, original prose or poetry, artwork, design, sculpture, photography and film – all relating to human experiences during the pandemic.

The submitted entries were judged on impact, feasibility, innovation, originality, effect on human behavior and aesthetics.

The competition was organized by the department of Research and Development.
