Biography
Katherine is a specialist in innovating organizations through careful listening, capacity building, and finding synergy to move forward. Her work history includes several years at the Qatar Foundation/HBKU Student Housing with the primary responsibility of overseeing the construction, end-user design, and transition of students to the new operation from all QF intuitions, including VCUarts Qatar. Additionally, she facilitated joint committees for international students, immigration and orientation, among others, while working for QF.
Katherine has maintained positive relationships with students, faculty and staff since leaving QF in 2014 including helping Qatari and other colleagues finish their doctoral, masters, and undergraduate pursuits.
Katherine has returned several times to the cabinet level as Dean and Assistant of Students with the Institute for Shipboard Education (Semester at Sea,) a global study abroad experience for college students. She served three full voyages and more than 15 partial voyages in various roles all the while traveling and living side-by-side students, faculty, staff and their families. She also served as the inaugural full-time director of the International and Global Engagement office at Black Hills State University.
She was previously Principal at The Global Education Firm, a consulting business which facilitates innovative, enriching, and culturally appropriate solutions for individuals and organizations around the world. Beloit College, Appalachian State University, University of Alaska-Anchorage and The University of Iowa are places Katherine has also called home.
With hybrid work experience in both Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, Katherine offers a holistic view of the student experience. She has taught undergraduate, graduate, and professional development classes both domestically and in more than 45 countries. Additionally, she facilitated millions of dollars in undergraduate research opportunities for students while also conducting her own research for publications and presentations.
Katherine has extensive international higher and tertiary education consulting and travel experiences with extended time and residency in North America, Europe and Asia. While she doesn’t like to count, a student once noted she has traveled to more than 100 countries and territories around the world.
Katherine received a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Methodist University where she studied Advertising and Art History. She also has a Master’s degree in Counseling from Clemson University, and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies.
