Student Activities Manager

Summary

The Department of Student Life and Engagement is a high-paced, service-oriented unit that demands active teamwork and initiative. The Student Activities Manager will coordinate a dynamic student activities program that complements and enhances the academic programs offered at VCUarts Qatar, contributes to the excellence of the student experience, creates and maintains linkages to Qatar Foundation, all of the Education City universities, and the VCU home campus in Richmond. Additionally, the Student Activities Manager supports the vision and strategy of the Director of Student Life and Engagement within the Division of Student Affairs and in concert with the mission and vision of the School. The division of Student Affairs at VCUarts in Qatar creates a student-centered culture promoting community, engagement, development, and lifelong learning. The office enhances the academic experience for undergraduate and graduate students through a myriad of programs, services, and activities that foster experiential and cross-cultural education.

This is a full-time position offering a comprehensive benefits package including a range of allowances, child tuition support, and ample professional development opportunities. Major Activities & Essential Functions

  • Develops and implements a dynamic and relevant undergraduate student orientation program, and develops and implements a dynamic and relevant graduate student orientation program
  • Collaborates with academic and administrative departments, including Admissions, Art Foundation Program, Registration, and Enrollment Office, to facilitate the new student transition into the university.
  • Supports the creation and implementation of a university transition program for first-year students, including community-building programs and events focusing primarily on student engagement among first-year students.
  • Supports the Director of SLE with initiatives and events related to the Student Government Association (SGA), working closely with the Qatar Student Association (QSA) and Student Ambassadors, along with with the Leadership Program for the Student Ambassadors, SGA, and the QSA to promote leadership skill building.
  • Develops and manages all student activities and events related to clubs and organizations, including awards night, Student Club field trips, gala dinners, Ramadan iftars, charity events, Movie nights, and local visits to museums and galleries, as well as, creates and manages a co-curricular student certification and recognition system.
  • Develops and manages a sophomore community-building program and organizes events to maintain student engagement, and manages and maintains effective community-building traditions such as Involvement Fairs (Ice Cream Social and Hot Chocolate Mixer), and weekly Karak hours to facilitate cross-discipline and intercultural community building and interaction.
  • Increases participation and student engagement during Karak hours by targeting specific high-need groups such as the Desi community, the QSA, and International Students and develops activities that promote cross-culture interaction.
  • Supports the Director of SLE in international student travel, including pre-departure meetings, etc.
  • Collectively works with the IE&SP Officer on International Education Week and Entrepreneurship Week by liaising with external stakeholders to provide student knowledge-based sessions.
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop SLE programs that support co-curricular activities.
  • Works closely with other key players to plan and execute student trips and exchanges, as well as, travels with students on local and international trips.
  • Manages social media strategy (Instagram, Facebook) and serves as primary contact/liaison for SLE with the Communications Department, and manages an innovative marketing/promotion strategy that will involve all students, specifically Qatari students, in a range of student activities.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure the smooth operation of the Office of Student Life & Engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a similar field is preferred
  • 5 – 7 years of experience in student affairs, student life, or a related area in higher education. The candidate should have experience in direct management of student programs, leadership development, and event planning
  • Must exhibit excellence in written and spoken English communication
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Ability to comply with university procedures
