19) Introduction to Pattern Making

About this class

Participants will be introduced to the Basics of Patternmaking and making own Basic Bodice / Block.

Students will learn accuracy in fitting and pattern alterations, which will help them for advanced pattern and dress making.

Class Outline
  1. Introduction to Patternmaking, how to select Patterns, and the rule of three Cutting, Fitting, Stitching & Finishing. Your pattern size, pattern layout, matching motifs, plaids and stripes, bias cut stripe & large prints
  2. Your measurement chart, taking your own measurement. Drafting your basic Bodice/ Block, construction  details of your pattern , making darts
  3. Introduction to sewing machines, finishing your basic bodice / block. Chart your way- to be sure of the accuracy & good fit.
  4. Patterns with various fittings problems are solved.
  5. How to do pattern alterations- increasing and decreasing your pattern size.
  6. Sleeve pattern- Variations in sleeve patterns( puff sleeve, bell sleeve . pleated sleeves
  7. Discussing Variations in patterns and basic fitting.
  8. Make your own basic pattern and create variations in your design.

Asha Mathew is a professional Fashion Designer with excellent understanding of garment design & construction, fabric matching and a strong sense of colour and fashion. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion and Costume Design and has over 12 years association as a Costumer Coordinator, Designer, Merchandiser and Fashion Instructor. Associated with the costume department for the Doha Arab Games 2011.
