Innovative Media Studios

Mission

The Innovative Media Studios (IMS) is dedicated to extended media education, the research of emerging technologies, and creative exploration. In addition, IMS provides the VCUarts Qatar community with media equipment and studio spaces that encourage interdisciplinary application and inspire a wide range of experimentation.

Research

The IMS is constantly exploring technology that has creative potential and is available to assist with technical guidance or to make suggestions on how to creatively execute particular objectives. Feel free to contact the IMS to book a consultation. Please send an email to [email protected].

Media Studios Spaces

Editing and VR Studio

There are two editing stations in room 224 for Mac computers that have the ability to render larger video and graphics projects quickly. In addition, there is a Virtual Reality (VR) PC station which has a HTC VIVE VR headset and multiple VR games and experiences. All three stations are available for booking for specific time blocks during the week.

Sound Studio

The Sound Studio has a booth that has been acoustically treated to create, edit, and master audio content. The studio is furnished with a Mac and top-notch speakers that are specially designed for audio production. Additionally, users have the option to record up to 16 individual audio sources simultaneously by utilizing the Digital Audio Workspace (DAW) that is provided. Moreover, there are diverse types of synthesizers that can help with sound design experimentation and music production.

Photography Studio

The Photography Studio in room 228 is equipped with a diverse range of backdrops, suspended flash-head studio lights, and other accessories essential for a high-quality photo shoot. Additionally, a movable studio table is available for capturing small objects. This studio is ideal for portraiture, still life, fashion, and portfolio shoots. The studio is bookable for 2-4 hour blocks of time throughout the week. Extended hours may be granted on a case by case basis. The IMS staff will be available to help with the setup of technical equipment but cannot assist with the actual shoot or camera operations. Please bring your own photographer and assistants to help with your shoot.

Production Studio + Vocal Booth

The Production Studio in room 226 is open for videography and photography and features various stands, hand clamps, and sandbags for audio visual (A/V) production. There’s a fixed LED panel lighting grid installed to facilitate lighting, and additional equipment can be borrowed for more intricate production requirements. The IMS personnel will be present to help set up technical equipment, but they cannot aid with the actual shooting or camera operations. If you’re uncertain about utilizing studio equipment, please approach an IMS staff member for guidance.

The IMS Equipment Room houses a variety of multimedia equipment such as high-end photography and video production cameras, lighting kits, and audio recording equipment. Staff are on hand for technical and creative consultation.

Book IMS Studio Space

Studios can be booked outside of opening hours with special permission. Requests for access must be made at least 48 hours to clear security. For more complex projects that require special equipment, please fill out a Project Proposal Form and book a consultation by emailing [email protected]. We advise at least a two weeks advance planning period for more complicated production needs.
