About this class

In this two day introductory class students will create a fold accordion book and sew pamphlet booklet with paper covers. Students will be guided through the making of two handmade books as well as implement methods of creating decorative papers.  This class is suitable for beginners and anyone interested in basic bookmaking without special equipment.  

Class Outline

Day 1.  Accordion books and stained papers

Day 2.  Sewing pamphlet booklets

Materials needed

Items to buy for this class

Participants are required to buy their own materials beforehand and bring them to every class

  • Assorted papers (watercolor, pastel, decorative)
  • Embroidery needles
  • Embroidery floss (assorted colors)
  • Bone Folder
  • Awl
  • Craft Knife
  • Liquid PVA glue  
  • Assorted ribbon
  • Spray bottle
  • Ruler
  • Craft scissors
  • Cutting mat

On occasions, there may be some more materials to be bought and brought in if and when advised by the instructor.

Beckie Dobbs
Lecturer

Beckie Dobbs is from the United States and has been living and working in Doha since 2014.
Beckie holds a BFA in Art Education from the University of South Carolina and an MPA in Arts
Management from the College of Charleston. She currently works as an Arts Integration
Facilitator at Qatar Academy Doha.
