About this class

In this introductory course to Islamic Biomorphic motifs you will learn how to draw the patterns and motifs you find on the walls of the great tombs, palaces, mosques and monuments of the Islamic work. You will learn how to see the geometric framework of the motifs as well as how to create compositions and colour combinations both traditional and contemporary.

Class Outline

This class will be over 3 days.
 

  • Day 1: Intro to the leaf and how it is used Islamic biomorphic compositions. You will learn to create some different motifs from different locations in the Islamic world.
  • Day2: Intro to the flower and how it is used in Islamic Biomorphic compositions. Where is it used and its significance. You will learn how to create flower motif from different locations in the Islamic world.
  • Day 3: Flower motifs will be continued as well we will look at the animal motifs used in Islamic Biomorphic patterns.

I am an author, artist and academic. I have been teaching traditional Islamic arts for almost 10 years. I graduated from the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts specializing in traditinal Iznik ceramics, but my interests are much wider than that. I love all ceramics throughout the Islamic lands.
