Students, Faculty & Staff Patrons

Students, faculty and staff of VCUarts Qatar can borrow library materials according to the following policies

EDUCATION CITY INTERLIBRARY LOAN

Students and faculty enrolled at other Education City institutions may borrow materials through interlibrary loan by requesting the items through their home libraries. The policy below is a general guideline and each library may override any policy at its discretion on a case-by-case basis. The borrowing library is responsible for the pick-up and timely return of the items. If an item is lost, the borrowing library is responsible for replacement fees according to the policies of the lending library.

Community Patrons

Community members are allowed onsite access to the VCUarts Qatar Library. Those wishing to have borrowing privileges may do so by filling out a form and paying a refundable QR500 deposit.

COMMUNITY BORROWERS

Community users are ineligible to borrow periodicals, reference items, course reserves or equipment. Interlibrary loan and document delivery are also not available. Community users must have a permanent address in Qatar. Community users with any items overdue will have their borrowing privileges blocked. Patrons with items more than 14 days overdue will have their borrowing privileges revoked and their deposit forfeited. Borrowers who are inactive for 2 years, but in good standing, must renew their account or the deposit will be forfeited.

Recalls

A book that is currently checked out but is needed by another patron, may be recalled before its due date. The original borrower can have the book for two weeks, after which the book will be returned and held in the library.

Lost and Overdue Items

The Library does not charge fines for overdue items; however, we do ask that you return library materials in a timely manner. For any lost items, a minimum replacement fee of QR364 ($100) will be charged. For rare, unique or unusual items this fee may be increased according to market value or a fair price as determined by the library.

• For VCUarts Qatar students, faculty and staff books overdue by more than 42 days will be marked lost and a minimum replacement fee of QR364 ($100) will be charged.  Audiovisual materials will be marked lost after 28 days and a minimum replacement fee of QR182 ($50) will be charged.VCUarts Qatar patrons with items overdue will have their borrowing privileges blocked. Students will not be able to register for classes and faculty/staff will have a block on their final pay until library losses or overdues are resolved.
• For community borrowers, if books are overdue by more than 14 days the library has the right to revoke borrowing privileges and forfeit their deposit.
• Any faculty or staff leaving VCUarts Qatar must return all materials, and all materials from any proxy borrowers, at least one week before leaving. Any unreturned items will be considered lost. Payment for lost items must be made to the finance office prior to departing from VCUarts Qatar or further penalties will ensue.
• Students from another HBKU institution who are cross-registered for courses at VCUarts Qatar may check out books from VCUarts Qatar’s library.  Cross-registered students will then be bound by both university’s library policies.  Failure to return books and other library materials will result in a registration block at their own home university, whenever possible until all materials are returned.

Damaged Materials

The patron is responsible for damage done to items when checked out. The minimum charge is QR36 ($10); items that are irreparable will be billed as lost. Damaged items remain the property of VCUQatar.
