Join us for a Perfume Creation Workshop as part of the Eco Lux Lab from VCUarts Qatar and ShopQatar Workshop Series. 

The workshop will be curated by Francis Hembert, President of Cinquiéme Sens Inc, leaders in the art of perfume-making and selling, all the way from Grasse, France.

The Workshop:

The Perfume Creation Workshop will help participants understand the basics of perfume creation and use their olfactory senses to create unique fragrances. 

Each participant will receive a perfume kit, “The Olfactorium,” a miniature version of a perfumer’s organ. In the world of perfumery, a perfumer’s organ refers to either or both the physical workspace and ‘kit’ that contains vials of different base notes, which the perfumer combines to create fragrances. Participants will be able to use their miniature organs in the perfume creation session. And after the workshop, participants can use the kit to blend more perfumes on their own. The workshop will also help participants understand the techniques used by professionals to sell their fragrances and not just create them. 

For the first three hours of the workshop, participants will be introduced to natural and synthetic raw materials, the ‘structure’ of a fragrance. They will learn to use their olfactory capacities to identify notes and develop fragrances. They will also gain an understanding of the olfactory pyramid and the different facets of a fragrance.

This will be followed by two hours where participants will be introduced to important sales techniques used in the world of perfumery, including an understanding of customers’ differing styles and preferences.
