Meet Joshua Rodenberg, Head of Innovative Media Studios.

Joshua Rodenberg has joined the faculty of VCUarts Qatar as Head of Innovative Media Studios.

Joshua received his MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Richmond and his Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern Indiana. Prior to joining VCUarts Qatar, Joshua worked in the Kinetic Imaging Department at Virginia Commonwealth University where he taught courses in Computational Media Arts and Sound Communication. He also taught interdisciplinary classes in art foundations as well as senior-level courses in the Kinetic Imaging curriculum. Joshua also served as the Facilities and Equipment Coordinator for the Kinetic Imaging Department. Prior to joining VCU, Joshua held positions at the Oregon College of Arts and Crafts and Rowan University.

Joshua’s recent residencies include Signal Culture: Experimental Media Artist Residency in New York, the Mountain Lake ART LAB, at the Mountain Lake Biological Research Station at the University of Virginia, and the prestigious Rasquache Artist Residency in Coapan Puebla Mexico, for which he now serves on the Board of Directors. Joshua’s recent sound design collaborations include development of the Becoming Biodiversity application with Amy Youngs, and the creation of the soundtrack for the experimental documentary Coapan En Espera (Coapan On Standby), a collaboration with Federico Cuatlacuatl. Joshua’s recent solo exhibition, Inescapable, was held at Anderson Gallery in Richmond, Virginia.

In the past year Joshua was also commissioned by Capital One’s Eastern headquarters to install a six channel video and sound piece, called Finding the Time, and in February of 2019, the Belgium-based record label, Off-Records, released his solo experimental soundscape album, Cognizant.
