Innovative Vinyl Artistry Program Empowers Qatar Academy Doha Art Students at VCUarts Qatar

Qatar Academy Doha art students in grades 11 and 12 recently embarked on a transformative artistic journey through the Vinyl Artistry program offered by the Community and Continuing Education program at VCUarts Qatar. Led by the talented instructor and VCUarts Qatar graduate Jood El Beshti, this unique four-week program, titled “From Concept to Installation,” opened the doors to the captivating world of vinyl art creation, cutting, and installation.

The Vinyl Artistry program was carefully crafted to provide students with a hands-on experience by exploring the resurgence of vinyl art. Throughout the course, participants gained proficiency in design software and vinyl cutting techniques, acquiring skills that bridge the gap between technical expertise and artistic creativity. One of the program highlights was the opportunity for students to create a silhouette of themselves in vinyl, adding a personal touch to their creations.

This initiative was made possible through the unwavering support of the FabLab at VCUarts Qatar, which houses advanced machinery at the forefront of contemporary art and design. The program, which ran from October 29 to November 15, culminated in students leaving with their final projects, tangible manifestations of their newfound skills and artistic vision.

Participant feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with students expressing their enthusiasm for the comprehensive learning experience. A grade 12 student remarked, “I loved that there was an introduction and explanation of how to use Adobe Illustrator and everything.” Another student echoed this sentiment, saying, “This class did really come at the right time; we really felt like it was a wonderful challenge for us.”

This successful collaboration between Qatar Academy Doha and VCUarts Qatar is just the beginning. The Vinyl Artistry program serves as a model for future initiatives catering to Qatar Foundation schools, showcasing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in shaping the minds of future generations. The program’s success underscores the value of merging technical skills with artistic creativity, fostering a holistic approach to education.
