Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar and Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing (BQFP) will host an author talk and book launch for The Beauty Chorus on Wednesday, 1 June, 2011 at 6:00 PM at the Saffron Hall at VCUQatar.

The Beauty Chorus by Doha resident, Kate Lord Brown, published by Corvus press, is the latest in a series of events by libraries in Qatar Foundation and BQFP to encourage a love of reading and put authors in touch with potential readers as well as aspiring authors.

The book, The Beauty Chorus (2011) is about women who joined the ATA, the civilian pilots who ferried Tiger Moths and Spitfires to bases across war-torn Britain. Evie, Stella and Megan must learn to live and work together. Brave, beautiful and fiercely independent, these women soon move beyond their different backgrounds as they find romance, confront loss, and forge friendships that will last a lifetime.

“VCUQatar welcomes the opportunity to share the love of reading and this author with the wider community. We encourage attendees to visit the VCUQatar Library and browse our library collection before and after the event,” said Carol Hansen, director of Libraries at VCUQatar.

Ms. Brown has been a resident of Qatar since 2010 and an active participant in BQFP’s writing workshops including the Six Steps to a Story workshop offered by Sudanese author Leila Aboulela. She was a finalist in ITV’s The People’s Author competition in 2009, and her enormously popular blog, which describes the trials and tribulations of juggling babies and books, was voted one of the UK’s top hundred blogs.

The event will be held on Wednesday, 1 June at 6:00 PM at the Saffron Hall at VCUQatar and is open to the public. For more information on BQFP’s Reading and Writing Development activities please contact via email [email protected].
