Security Manager

Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Security Manager to support the university’s mission of maintaining a safe and secure campus environment. This role is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the contracted security team, managing security for special events, and ensuring the protection of university facilities and assets. The Security Manager also plays a key role in supporting emergency preparedness and response efforts and acts as the lead responder in the absence of the Director of Safety and Risk Management.

This is a full-time, on-site position with fixed working hours beginning at 1:00 PM, designed to ensure consistent oversight during afternoon and evening security shifts. Remote work is not permitted. Flexibility is essential, as evening, weekend, and overtime work may be required to support university events. Occasional local travel within Doha may also be necessary for event-related duties.

Major Activities & Essential Functions

  • Manages the QF-provided security team according to the terms of their contract, and manages security requests to QF for additional manning during university building events. Supports/develops programs which enhance guard training and preparedness, as well as acting as an advocate for their welfare on behalf of VCUarts Qatar.
  • Maintains knowledge of university facilities maintenance procedures, and are comfortable with tracking and reporting maintenance needs observed from the security team during routine building life safety/asset/physical security checks that are conducted by the guard staff after normal business hours.
  • Oversees the university ID card program with the assistance of the Safety Coordinator, coordinates and tracks lost and found items, university key card reader maintenance requests and understands the current security state of the building by conducting daily physical patrols/reviewing the incident reporting log.
  • Attends QF meetings related to security and crisis management on behalf of the university as requested by the Director. Suggests improvements to programs for the security and wellbeing of the community and is able to communicate program details effectively both verbally and in writing for greater community understanding.
  • Creates and updates awareness programs, technical procedures, post orders, and related documentation—both electronically and physically—to ensure program continuity, accessibility, and accurate record keeping for the Director.
  • Supervises the Safety and Risk Management Liaison Officer, assigning duties and coordinating their support to the security team during special events or as needed.
  • Participates in the university emergency management program as assigned by the Director. May act as the on-scene commander until Qatar Foundation officials or Qatari authorities arrive, the university Crisis Management Team (CMT) department representative, or the Chief Fire Warden in the absence of the Director as necessary.
  • Maintains knowledge of the third-party contract evacuation and travel security support contract terms on a technical level. Is able to communicate respectfully under pressure with university leadership, the third-party contractor, QF and VCU Richmond as necessary. 
  • Understands the role of the department in communicating respectfully and in a nature that de-escalates situations with all building occupants, and building trust and positive relationships with Human Resources and Student Affairs departments as a priority. Acts with discretion and professionalism at all times.
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested by the Director of SRM.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional training and experience, is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the security/crisis management fields.
  • Appropriate supervisory experience managing staff; ability to mentor and train staff of varying backgrounds and nationalities.
  • Proven ability to interpret policies and procedures, analyze data; make sensible recommendations and decisions.

Preferred:

  • Experience in an institution of higher education and/or local customs and laws.
  • Arabic language skills.
