Do you like grids, patterns and colors? This is the course for you. Participants are introduced to basic geometry concepts used in Islamic art and will learn how to construct a variety of patterns using the traditional tools of compass and straight edge. The classes conclude with each participant rendering their final project in a media of their choice. Suitable for all levels, beginners and returning students

Sahar Mari
is an interdisciplinary designer who graduated from VCUQatar in 2010 with a BFA in Graphic and Fashion Design in addition to an Art History minor. She is passionate about learning new things and incorporating different elements in her designs. She attended various courses and workshops on the construction of Islamic pattern designs and wants to share the joy of understanding the simplistic and sometimes more intricate grids and systems behind them. In her free time she enjoys reading, exploring new things and collaborating with like-minded people.
