About this class

تُعدُّ هذه الدورة مدخلاً تمهيدياً للتَّعرُّف إلي فنون المخطوطات الإسلامية وصنائعها. تبدأ الدورة بمقدمة حول المخطوط الإسلامي والفن الإسلامي، والتخصصات العلمية والعملية ذات الصلة، في عصر المخطوطات والعصر الحالي، مثل: الوِراقة، النِّساخة، التزويق، التوريق، علم المخطوطات (الكوديكولوجيا)، علم الخطوط القديمة (الباليوجرافيا)، والفرق بينه وبين علم الخط العربي الجمالي (الكاليجرافي)، وتاريخ الفن، وغيرها من المصصطلحات والمفاهيم. تتناول الدورة جماليات المخطوط وفنونه، ومنها: تنسيق الصفحة، التذهيب، الألوان، الخطوط، الزخارف، التصاوير، المنمنمات، التجليد. تهدف الدورة إلى إلمام المشارك بالموضوعات الرئيسة في فنون المخطوطات الإسلامية، من خلال عروض وقراءات تفاعلية، كما تسعى إلى تحصيله لمَلكَة أوَّليَّة لتذوق الفنيَّات الجمالية فيها، وذلك من خلال نماذج من روائع المخطوطات، وتحليلها، ومناقشتها.

  • مقدمة في المخطوط الإسلامي والفن الإسلامي.
  • تنسيق الصفحة وإخراجها في المخطوطات.
  • التذهيب والألوان في المخطوطات.
  • خطوط المخطوطات.
  • الزخارف في المخطوطات.
  • التصاوير والمنمنمات في المخطوطات.
  • صناعة تجليد المخطوطات وفنها.
  • نماذج من روائع المخطوطات وفنونها: تحليل ونقد جمالياتها.

Mahmoud Zaki

Mahmoud Zaki is a research Fellow at GU-Q. He received his Master’s degree in Manuscript Studies from the Institute of Arabic Research and Studies in Cairo and a second degree from University College London. He also attended courses at London Rare Books and Paleography Schools, University of London. He is now finalizing his PhD in Codicology and Islamic History. Before Georgetown he worked at the Institute of Arabic Manuscripts (ALECSO, Arab League) and the National Library and Archives of Egypt. He also had internships at the British Library and the Bodleian. He delivered and organized academic courses, lectures and papers at international and regional institutes including: UCL Qatar, MIA, FANAR, Arab League, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, National Library of Morocco, Manuscripts Center (Algeria), Al-Furqan Foundation (London) and CISC (Madrid).He created and organized the annual awareness day: “The Arabic Manuscript Day”, sponsored by the ALECSO. He established public exhibitions in Doha, Muscat and Cairo. From his publications: Early Arabic Bookmaking Techniques and the Arabic edition of “The Arabic Manuscript Tradition” (the bibliography).  Learn more about his work at: Academia page & Alukah page.
