About this class

This course will introduce you to the world of Shoe Design and equip you with the tools to design for the footwear market. You will learn about research, mood boards, drawing, range building, presentation footwear language and terminology. Through a series of lectures and workshops, you will learn what is the process behind designing your own footwear collection.

Class Outline
  1. Introduction to shoe terminology: Types of shoes, parts and components; Foot anatomy; Development of Mood board for your collection.
  2. Trend Research and Consumer profile
  3. Introduction to shoe drawing.
  4. Developing your collection from mood board.
  5. Collection Development continued and Finalization of sketches (6)
  6. Introduction to color; Rendering techniques and Mediums; Selecting material, trims and finishes
  7. Technical and manufacturing details
  8. Portfolio compilation and final presentation.

Note: Depending on your project and as per instruction by your lecturer, some extra materials may become required for you to buy for the class

On occasions, there may be some more materials to be bought and brought in if and when advised by the instructor.

Wajiha Pervez
Lecturer

Wajiha is an Interdisciplinary designer, maker, materials enthusiast and traveler from Pakistan. She completed her graduate studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar and is currently an artist in residence at the Firestation Artist in Residence. Living between Netherlands, Qatar and Pakistan, Wajiha has gained knowledge of a broad spectrum of international design. Dividing her time between work, exhibitions, research and workshops, Wajiha aims to share her knowledge and create meaningful dialogues between human, environment and culture through design interaction.
