This one-week course offers an introduction to different methods of printmaking and collage. Using traditional and non-traditional materials, we will explore a variety of different materials. We will experiment with paper marbling, nature prints, and mixed media projects. Students will use their collages to create a pop-up art work as well as other artworks.
Please note that underneath schedule of activities is flexible and may change according to needs arising
Day 1 Class introduction, paper marbling, paper preparation
Day 2 Linoleum cutting, printing
Day 3 Mixed-media, pop-ups
Day 4 Mixed-media
Day 5 Finalize artworks, exhibition

Participants are required to buy their own materials beforehand and bring them to every class

Dr. Melanie Buffington
Melanie Buffington is an Associate Professor of Art Education at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, USA. She teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses and previously taught 7th grade art. Her research interests include service- learning, technology, museum education, multiculturalism, feminism, contemporary art, public art, and teacher preparation. In her teaching, she strives to uses student-centered techniques and create classroom communities that foster democratic learning. She actively participates in state, national, and international professional organizations. Her main forms of art making currently relate to textiles – sewing and knitting.
