About this class

In this course students will design and create 3D  pieces using paper mache, recycled materials and found objects. They will examine creatures in folklore and mythology for inspiration and make detailed drawings before embarking on sculptures. Completed work with be acrylic and spray painted and embellished with selected media.

Class Outline
  • Day One : Examine features of a mythical creatures and creatures in literature. Work on    preliminary sketches. Discuss articulation and stability and work the parameters into the design.
  • Day Two :Experiment with the structural skeleton of the creatures and start buliding the models
  • Day Three : Begin to add paper mache to the models.
  • Day Four Continue sculpting in paper mache
  • Day Five Painting and embellishment.

  • Small sketch book
  • Pencils
  • Coloured pencils

  • Apron or art coverall

On occasions, there may be some more materials to be bought and brought in if and when advised by the instructor.

Bridget Dunn

Bridget Dunn is an art teacher and illustrator who is originally from New Zealand.

Her specialty is art education for younger children and she is passionate about promoting art in the community.

Bridget majored in art at Canterbury University in Christchurch and trained as a primary teacher.

Prior to moving to the Middle East, she taught for 10 years in London preparatory schools and lectured art at a teacher’s college. Bridget had three more years teaching in Bahrain before moving to Qatar where she spent eight years teaching art and design in schools and with VCUarts Qatar in community education. 

Now on another adventure in the Middle East, she is excited to share her ideas and expertise online.
