The course will explore basic pottery processes and techniques: preparing clay (wedging), wheel throwing, trimming and glazing. At the conclusion of this community course, students will have a fundamental knowledge of pottery making, alongside their own 5-7 finished pieces to take home.

Please note that the schedule is flexible and are prone to change according to needs arising
class 1 Brief introduction to pottery, equipment, and supplies as well as studio safety and cleanliness. Demo on the wheel followed by an exercise to understand pottery.
class 2 Student practice wedging, wheel throwing and trimming with the guidance of instructors.
class 3 Student practice wedging, wheel throwing and trimming with the guidance of instructors
class 4 Student practice wedging, wheel throwing and trimming with the guidance of instructors
class 5 Student practice wedging, wheel throwing and trimming with the guidance of instructors
class 6 Student practice wedging, wheel throwing and trimming with the guidance of instructors
class 7 Student practice wedging, wheel throwing and trimming with the guidance of instructors
class 8 Student practice wedging, wheel throwing and trimming with the guidance of instructors
class 9 Student practice wedging, wheel throwing and trimming with the guidance of instructors. Students will choose 5-7 pots to be bisque fired.
class 10 Students will glaze their pots Bisque Firing (exploring the technique of pinching pots in the meantime). Class certificates will be given out.
*** Students will pick up their finished pots after a week***

Please do not purchase materials until VCUQatar has sent final course confirmation.
On occasions, there may be some more materials to be bought and brought in if and when advised by the instructor.
