About this class

The class consists of creating a personal mood board to represent each one of the participants. The participants will get to create a digital and physical board using simple techniques of collecting inspiration and Adobe programs like Illustrator and Photoshop; which will be simply taught during the course of the program. At the end of the program, all the mood boards will be displayed and the participants will get a chance to guess which mood board belongs to who in a fun exercise. The skills to be learnt during the program include understanding the best way to represent one’s self, simple adobe illustrator and photoshop, finding inspiration online, dissecting inspiration and images online to find important elements, and how to create content from inspiration without falling victim to plagiarism.

Class Outline

-Class 1:  

  • Explaining the purpose of a mood board
  • Looking for examples of mood boards
  • Understanding the different elements in a mood board
  • Taking ready mood boards and dissecting them

-Class 2: 

  • Writing prompt to find each persons mood
  • Begin collecting images that represent each person 
  • Looking over images and understanding why each one was chosen

-Class 3: 

  • Learning necessary image editing skills on photoshop
  • Learning necessary image arrangement and alignment on illustrator

-Class 4: 

  • Editing images on photoshop
  • Arranging the board on illustrator
  • Finalizing the digital mood board


-Class 5: 

  • Finding images in magazines that represent the contrast of the digital mood board
  • Making an interesting collage of the images to create the physical mood board
  • Exercise to guess which board belongs to which participant and which boards contrast
  • Taking a moment for each participant to explain their choices of elements

On occasions, there may be some more materials to be bought and brought in if and when advised by the instructor.

Hala Alzawaydeh

Hala Amer is an alumna of the Interior Design department at VCUarts Qatar and is currently working in the Fabrication Lab and Woodshop as a technician. Hala hopes to pursue graduate studies at IAAC in Digital Fabrication for Emergent Futures. 
Hala’s work at the FabLab has allowed her to master her skills in merging physical and digital making. Her undergraduate courses have made her an expert in photoshop and illustrator and her skills in preparing mood boards comes from her practice in Interior Design.
