First Year Introduction (FYI) is a small, pre-foundation year studio program consisting of several studio courses designed to prepare freshmen for the rigors of the core Art Foundation year.
Students accepted into the FYI program are full matriculating students, and those who succeed (meeting basic GPA requirements) are automatically enrolled in Art Foundation courses as sophomores.
FYI studio courses introduce fundamental technical and conceptual skills in the areas of drawing, 2D and 3D design, time-based media, and a broad introduction to commonly used art and design software.
These courses start with the basics, and move toward complexity in a design-process oriented curriculum.
By the end of the year, students are comfortable with undertaking complex projects that require coordination of skill and intentionality to produce expressive, meaningful, and well-crafted outcomes.
