About this class

With sustainability being the new focus and responsibility of the luxury sector, both locally and globally, the Fashion Design department at VCUarts Qatar has launched a new initiative called Eco-Luxury Laboratory (Eco Lux Lab), supported by the Community & Continuing Education Program.

Please join us in celebrating the launch of the Eco Lux Lab!

We will launch by offering the creative community free access to a behind the scenes looks at the luxury handbag world! Step inside a leather goods workshop in rural Italy and discover the secrets of artisanal handbag making with the first in the series of Eco-Luxury Laboratory workshops with VCUarts Qatar.

In the first online workshop, which will take place live, participants can step inside the workshop of an Italian artisan and discover the secrets of artisanal handbag making with artisan Rino Magnani at his workshop in northern Italy.

From the sketch to the modeling, the cutting phase, and all the traditional manual steps to the final prototype, follow us on this journey of the art of leatherwork.

Assistant Professor Federica Visani will be streaming the process step-by-step live from Italy. Fashion Department Chair Christopher Fink will moderate this adventure and participants will have the possibility to ask questions to Mr. Magnani.
