Celebrating the hosting of the World Cup 2022, this course is designed to develop ideation and imaginative skills within the participants and enable them to use it in practice. The participants will be introduced to the simple principles of design and will be taught the importance of creativity and self-expression through visual communication.
The objectives of the course are:
Day One: Participants introduce themselves, their interests and their hobbies. They will be introduced to design as a medium of self-expression and imagination. As well as that, examples of mascots as inspirations to keep in mind for the class.
Day Two: Participants will explore styles and design principles and produce a collage of the overall style that interests them. They will also explore the story narrative behind their mascots. They will dive into their imagination and focus on the characteristics of their personas in order to create their mascots.
Day Three: After finalizing their mascots’ background story, participants will start sketching, collaging, collating pictures to make their mascot come to life.
Day Four: Production day! Participants will have a full day to build their character. They can build mascots from paper/boards, paint and or collage them.
Day five: Presentation and reflection day.

Hagar Allam
Hagar Allam is a VCUQ Alumni who has graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design. She is interested in cultivating collaboration in workspaces and using design to create connections within her culture. Hagar has been involved in VCUQ’s community throughout her student career by taking part in exhibitions, the student government association and research assistant positions. She has also co-taught a VCUarts community class and enjoyed helping participant’s processes. She is currently working in VCUarts under the fabrication lab, in the print lab, and has passion for printmaking within Graphic Design.
