IT Technician

Summary

Under the general direction of the Chief Technology Officer, the IT Technician provides technical support for Interdisciplinary areas of the school with a focus on IT infrastructure and support. The position’s focus will be to maintain and monitor end-user workstations and productivity on local area network. The incumbent performs a variety of maintenance, software installation, end-user support and training tasks to ensure end-user workstations and network performance meet university and user requirements. Major Activities & Essential Functions

  • Provides support to faculty, staff, and students on all university-supported applications, practices outstanding customer service, and provides successful resolution for multiple concurrent assignments at the IT Helpdesk.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains personal computers, Windows networks, Apple workstations, file servers, network cabling, printers, copiers, and other related equipment, devices, and systems; adds or upgrades and configures disk drives, printers, and related equipment, and communicates complex technology information to novice and advanced computer users.
  • Diagnoses and resolves common technical software, hardware and communications issues including those related to desktops/laptops, printers, audiovisual equipment, email, and networking.
  • Manage loaner equipment checkout, as well as, troubleshoots problems within a networked Windows and Apple OS environment and resolve associated hardware and common software problems encountered by end-users.
  • Continuously learns and stays current in the field of Technology/Digital Prints and other related activities, and plans and implements printer network security, including managing host security, file permissions, file system integrity, and adding and deleting users.
  • Develops and conducts various training and instruction for print systems and other technology systems, operating systems, and other applications; assists users in maximizing use of technology.
  • Analyzes and documents problems with vendor-supplied technology and generates documentation for submission of technical problems to vendor; contacts outside resources for input into resolving problems and applies corrective action.
  • Works with inventory management software to record technology assets including computers, printers and other supplies and other university issued equipment, and consults with faculty, staff, and students about their project requirements.
  • Maintains confidentiality with regards to the information being processed, stored, or accessed by the end-users on the network, as well as, Monitors the environmental, logistical, infrastructural, systematic upkeep of the technology service and liaises with the appropriate contacts at the school.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • A diploma in an IT-related field is required.
  • 5 years of work experience in the field of IT including 1-2 years help desk experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a relevant field is preferred.
  • Certification as IT Technician will be an advantage (e.g. CyberSecurity, CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional)
  • Must have working knowledge of a printing solution, for example, PaperCut, Print Deploy, etc.
