Biography

Neihan Yaqoob is the Writing Center Instructor at VCUarts Qatar. Neihan works with undergraduate and graduate students in one-on-one writing consultations to help them think critically and reflectively about their writings. In her consultations, Neihan engages students in meaningful conversations driven by “I notice/I wonder” prompts as well as write-to-think, write-to-learn, and write-to-discover activities. Neihan aims to help students embrace their writing process, as recursive as it may, so they can learn how to take ownership of the making of their writings and hear an embodiment of their “self” reflected in their writings.

Neihan’s current research focuses on exploring the role of “thinking on paper” expressed in the form of raw, unexpected, unfinished writing and how these writings support a culture of wonder, curiosity, research, and reflection, all of which are instrumental for learning and shaping design-based thinking, processes, and practices. Neihan also examines how exploratory writing practices support intentionality in the creative process and originality in producing and disseminating creative work.
