Biography
Rola Al Soubaihi is an Adjunct Faculty of Science in the Liberal Arts and Sciences Program at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar). She received her BSc in Science and an MS in Solid State Physics from Yarmouk University, Jordan. She has over 20 years of research and teaching experience, including her positions as adjunct faculty in VCUarts Qatar, teaching and research assistant at Virginia Commonwealth University, and a high school teacher at the Ministry of Education, Jordan. Rola’s research objective is to create nanomaterials for environmental and medical applications by leveraging the novel properties found at the nano scale and developingmethodstobuildmaterials fromthenanoscaleuptothemacroworldtocapitalize ontheenhancedperformance characteristics demonstrated bythese materials. Rola’s previous research experience includes applying photocatalysis for water cleaning and anti-bacterial coating, carbon-activated nanosheets for medical applications, and catalysis for environmental applications. She was awarded the second place Environmental research posters at Materials Science and Engineering Symposium 2018, Qatar University, and third place Health research posters award at Qatar Annual Research Conference “ARC13”, Doha, Qatar.
Research Interests
Environmental and healthcare applications of heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis including reduction of toxic and greenhouse gases, CO2 adsorption, photocatalysis for anti-bacterial treatments, waste water treatment, porous materials for water harvesting.Current research focuses on producingporous materials for environmental catalysts for CO oxidation and CO2 absorption, anti-bacterial coating, and Nano textiles.
